SARNEVESHT-DESTINY

Destiny I
I was brought up by secular parents, in a Muslim country. What I was taught in school contradicted dramatically from how my family operated. I grew up with many questions about my identity and status as a woman. These questions still inspire me to explore culture, traditional beliefs and the religion I was meticulously taught in school.
Destiny is a visual journey to investigate the influence of religious beliefs on status and treatment of women. It explores the ways by which womanhood and gender roles are defined in a society that bases its moral codes on religion.
This series borrows visual elements from classical Greek art, Persian miniature, old tapestry and architecture. These elements are removed from their initial context to serve a contemporary objective narrative about women.
Destiny deals with questions such as:
Who is the contemporary woman?
What are her rights?
Do men and women have equal rights?
Is Hijab a form of protection?
What are our responsibilities (as Men and Women) towards treatment of women?
