Corder Jason

Born in San Francisco (1969) Jason Corder has worked in France, Ireland, Senegal, Ethiopia and now lives in Kenya.  Nominated in 2008 for the Sovereign European Art Prize, he was also awarded a Ballinglen Fellowship.

He works mostly with wood ash, which he sees as a result of the energetic journey that starts with the sun. A journey: like the cycle of a tree that begins with life and ends with ashes. These ashes eventually create a painting that transmits a sense of continuity in time and space. Corder’s work explores the natural processes of the world we live in:  the way water moves; the way sound expands; the relationship between an environment and itself at a different point in time.
